Mount Kosciuszko

New Years Eve 2018

We spent the last day of 2018 hiking to the highest point in Australia, Mount Kosciuszko, which seemed fitting as we spent most of the year hiking up mountains overseas. We decided to start the walk from Thredbo, catching the chairlift up to Eagles Nest to begin the hike. The hike is 13km return, about 4-5 hours. We packed lunch and ate our sandwiches at the top of Mount Kosciuszko while we took in the view. Storm clouds were coming closer so we walked as fast as we could back down before we got soaked by the approaching rain. We almost made it to the restaurant in time, deciding to go up to the bar and have a drink and some hot chips to dry off and warm up. Even though it was the middle of summer it was pretty cold up on the mountain. We waited for the weather to pass and the chairlift to reopen and headed home.
